( a ) Stint at Doordarshan with hints of activism (check) - overlook the fact that he was the first person to interview Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on television (also check) Other than the lead cast, most of the characters are used as cameos (more on that later) which would have certainly hampered the narrative in any other movie. All actors portray their characters with a sincerity that needs to be applauded. The production values remain top-notch, with some inadvertent mistakes - the same stack of books is used in scenes spanning at least five decades, without a sign of aging on them. It tries to do too much with a very limited means of messaging, and like a painter who is trying to use every conceivable hue of color in their palette to paint a miniature, the result is a slapdash chaotic spray of paint that has us wondering - "which side is UP?"īut first, let us exchange a few pleasantries, as scarce as they may be, before we go in for the kill. The second part tries to fit in around 50 years worth of material in the same running time, a feat that would have earned the director a Nobel prize in Physics, had he done so successfully! Unfortunately, therein lies the main flaw of this entire endeavor. The first part of this two-movie sequence focussed on the first thirty or so years of PuLa's life, emphasizing the personal struggles that Sunita-bai and he underwent before finding a semblance of stability through their professional careers. Surely, one cannot be disappointed if one does not expect an appointment of quality! Surprisingly, this movie finds even newer strata to dig itself into, something that I did not think was humanly possible.

While the first movie was a surprise package (albeit an unpleasant one,) this time around, we were hoping that at least in terms of the movie's artistic standing and messaging, our expectations had settled within a ballpark range.

There is not much that I can add to my review of Part 1, except to say that this movie does prove the well-accepted notion that a sequel is usually worse than the original.
